Hey girlfriends,
It was a marvelously magical night that had me on a roller coaster of emotions, reactions, and all up in my feelings. After a long day of virtual zoom meetings to prepare for this upcoming school year, I can finally take this puff down, slide my bra off, and get into it wit’ my girlfriends and a glass of wine.
So, Im gonna try something a lil different here. Well not so different if you are a girlfriend that I text with often, you know I love a good GIF. I’m gonna unpack the nostalgic rollercoaster ride of a livestream just like dat. I mean that’s how we did it last night anyway, sharing our thoughts back and forth with short words, phrases, and some bomb ass GIF’s. Strap in and hold on tight…here…we…gooooo!!!
The DJ definitely kicked it off house party style with all of the ATL hits. 112, Usher, TLC…you name it he played it. Then he got us warmed up with some preliminary Brandy and Monica jams. Girlllll, I was up in my living room dancing around and singing like I was at a high school house party. (In ATL though…LOL)
As we continue our rollercoaster ride up the steep hill, we get to the entrance we’ve all been waiting for. Boho chic Brandy and Monica with the Fendi drip strut on in and take their seats, I look at my screen anticipating the experience I’m about to have watching BOTH of my teenage idols fill my TV screen with stunning beauty. Then THIS happened…
Kamala jumps on it to start it off right, giving the Queens their praise and encouraging them to continue using their voices in a powerful way. I mean…
Okay, so we get this thang started and immediately, I mean immediately I’m a 13 year old girl back sittin’ up in my room jammin’ to my stereo singing in my brush microphone.
Okay, now let’s just address the elephant in the room. Things were going just fine and then Brandy decided to bring Moesha into the room. As a fellow writer I understand the love for journal and poetry writing, but sis was going in….Ya hear me! In my opinion, it wasn’t the space for Moesha…I mean Brandy…to be at the Den reading from her journal about Q and the crew. Hahahaha
The rest of the show was pretty darn amazing…I must say I got my entire LIFE and felt like I was back in middle school dreaming about my first fake love and hanging with my girlfriends up in my room. The best part about the night was the fact that Brandy and Monica were able to heal whatever it was they weren’t speaking for. I mean, as black women and role models they put their issues aside for their own peace and hopefully helped y’all see that it’s all about the sisterhood from now on. As the kids these days put it…it’s the girlfriend support, love, and healing for me!
